Benefits of borage

One of the biggest skin issues I faced after I started my anti-cancer medication was both dryness and redness. Many skin care lines have products that address either dryness or redness, but not many have both. And, when you are looking for products and product lines that offer safe, natural, and effective options, you have even fewer choices. So, when I purchased a jar of Borage Butter Cream from Wild Carrot Herbals at Pure Aesthetics in Tucson, AZ, I was pleasantly surprised. Right away, the description on the label caught my eye. “For the most sensitive skin.” And it’s also a “butter” which I know means a thicker moisturizer, which is what I need for the dryness. But what the heck is borage, and how will it help me with my skin?

Borage seed oil contains a fatty acid called gamma-linolenic acid, which is helpful in that it has anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used to address skin issues such as eczema and dermatitis, both of which often present with redness, dryness, or itchy-ness. It is a natural and safe alternative to steroid creams.

The consistency of the Borage Butter Cream is thick, but melts into the side with little rubbing required. The cream also contains amazing moisturizing ingredients like organic coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. Again, all with moisturizing properties so essential to addressing the dryness and creepiness often found after starting cancer treatments and medications.

I use the Borage Butter Cream as a day cream. It does not contain a physical sunscreen, which I highly recommend you use daily, so you will want to remember that should you choose to use the Borage Butter Cream during the day. It would also make a wonderful night cream, perhaps layered over the jojoba oil previously reviewed.

As with any product you use on your face, make sure you apply it with a gentle touch. You don’t want to further inflame your sensitive skin. I often apply my skin care, and my cosmetics, with a gentle patting or tapping motion, allowing an easy application. I’ve noticed a difference in my skin using this method, and I hope it helps you too.
